Sydney is the perfect place to learn photography. Join me for a couple of hours and you will come away a more confident photographer. These photography classes can be enjoyed no matter your level of expertise. If you are an absolute beginner I can show you the basics that will get your photography on the right track. If you are an enthusiast I can show you many tips and technique to improve your images. Not bought your camera yet? DSLR Cameras are available to hire for $20 per class.

Photography in The Rocks

Night Photography in Sydney

The Rocks area is a great place to do some photography lessons with a wide range of subjects. We will cover Cityscapes, Close-ups, Portraits and low-light photography. Fun and informative.

Sydney at night is a magical sight. This Night photography class shows you how to capture the magic. Learn how to use long exposures with and even without a tripod. Starting times vary with time of year.

Course Outline

Saturday

Session 1 (2 Hour Class)
Understanding your Digital SLR Camera
Exposure modes explained. Getting the best results from Automatic. When to use manual settings. How ISO affects quality. When to use Jpegs and RAW files. How shutter speeds and apertures control exposure. Choosing the right types of lenses for portraits, landscapes and macro photography.

Session 2 (3 Hours on location)
Practical photography
Using what you have learned in the morning session we will photograph a number of subjects and explore the use of light, composition and design.

Session 3 (2 Hour Class)
Working with your images in Photoshop
We use the images that we have photographed in session 2 to explore the possibilities of the digital "darkroom".

Sunday

Session 4 (3 hours on location)
Practical Photography
We explore the use of shutter speeds and how to control depth of field. How to exploit lens types to give impact to your images. Using Fill-flash for portraits. Tips on composition and creating a "picture essay".

Session 5 (2 hour class)
Taking your photography to the next level
Analyzing high quality travel images and learning to recognise great subjects in your own travel. Picture taking etiquette. Questions and Answers.

Session 6 (2 Hours on Location)
Night Photography
How to take great night shots with and even without a tripod. Using long exposures, composition, how to make the most of your travel photography after the sun goes down.

Duration: 14 Hours total
Cost: $450 includes course notes
Class size: 10 students maximum



What to bring:
Your digital SLR (available for hire if you have not bought yours yet) or a compact with FULL manual control. Please email me if you are not sure if your camera is suitable. The lens or lenses that you intend travelling with. A tripod if you have one. Also useful if you have them; cable release, polarising filter, external flash.

Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be doing some walking and clothes that you can kneel down in.
